The Leader of Tijjaniyya Muhammadul Mahi Niasse has officially appointed deposed Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi ll as Khalifah of Sheikh Ibrahim Kaolack and leader of Tijjaniyya sect in Nigeria.

Bustandaily reports that Mr Sanusi’s spokesperson Sa’adatu Baba Ahmad announced this on her Facebook account on Monday.

Mrs Baba Ahmad said Niasse announced the appointment in Medina Baye, Kaolack, Senegal on Sunday at the end of Ramadan non obligatory night prayer (Taraweeh).

Since the death of Sheikh Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu in 2018, the sect has not appointed any leader.

Emir of Kano Muhammad Sanusi I, Sanusi’s late grandfather, was a leader of The Tijjaniyah.

It can be recalled that Sanusi ll was earlier appointed as Khalifa of Tijjaniyya sect in Nigeria by Makkiy Niasse a younger brother to Mahy Niasse, during this year’s Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse Mulud celebration in Sokoto.

Mahy Niasse however dismissed the appointment when he visited governor Abdullahi Ganduje, saying there should be a proper consultation before taking such decision
