Positive Pathways Initiative calls for the domestication of mental health and substance abuse act’

1 min read

Positive pathways initiative is
a non profit making, non political and a non governmental organization dedicated towards the protection, promotion, and advocacy for quality of life, especially for the groups of marginalized and neglected people such as mentally ill and depressed. We achieve our objectives by employing specific strategies such as: social reorientation and amplifying the voices for enhanced development of human personality, using preventive and rehabilitative measures, which include but not limited to: counseling, mentoring, education and empowerment of the victims, focussing more on ills of depression and other mental disorders mostly affecting women and the men alike in Nigeria

We therefore advocate for the domestication of mental health and substance abuse law, the bill that was assented by president Buhari in January, this year.

Positive pathways has as part of its contribution, earlier drafted Kano state mental health and substance abuse bill in 2022, and organized a review meeting with some civil societies and meetings with SEMA, the effort which was originally planned to eventually give rise to the validation of the document.

Similarly, Positive pathways organised an advocacy visit to the speaker house of assembly and followed up with letters seeking for the sponsorship of the bill.
